My name is Sharon. My husband and I live in Portsmouth in the UK and have been visiting Zante for a few years and have had an interest in the fantastic work undertaken by the Zante Strays organisation for some time. In June 2015, we visited a lovely lady called Jamie and met around 45 gorgeous dogs she was fostering at that time. All of the dogs were wonderful but one really stood out....basically, he chose us. A small but feisty mixed breed dog who was around 3 months old at the time. It was love at first sight and we knew that this very special little boy belonged in our family.
The Zante Strays volunteers did absolutely everything; the process was so much easier and less expensive than we had expected - I cannot fault it at all. We had a home visit which was a really sensible one; not the grilling you get from some UK-based charities - the guy who called round just wanted to make sure we had a secure garden, and that we knew how to deal with dogs (we already had 2 x terriers). The cost included all vaccinations and transport and was very reasonable; not much more than a normal adoption fee in the UK. We decided to name our new boy Quinn after Anthony Quinn who played Zorba the Greek.
In August 2015, Quinn was driven across Europe by a lovely man called Pete and his wife in his very smart doggy transporter. We collected Quinn from a drop-off point quite close to our home and brought him home. The whole process was quick and painless.
Today, we could not imagine life without our 'little greeky' and we know we will only ever buy dogs this way in future; Quinn has settled into our home so well, we cannot remember not having him and he gets on with his big brothers like a house on fire. He is the most loving, well behaved and adorable dog imaginable and it feels so wonderful to know you have done something so very important. Every time I look at Quinn, my heart melts all over again.
