I had been looking for a dog of my own for a while and knew I wanted to adopt a rescue dog as there were so many already needing loving homes. I searched for weeks and found that most dogs from UK charities had already been reserved by some lucky new owners - probably because they had already been in to meet the dog.
I came across Zante Strays through Holbrook Animal Rescue and Scrumpy (previously Beauty) stole my heart immediately. She was a beautiful little 5-month old puppy who had been found next to her mother who had sadly died and she didn't seem to have long to live. Thank god for Zante Strays taking her and her siblings in to a kind foster home until she found new parents.
The whole process was so easy! I contacted Zante, they gave me all of the information I needed about Scrumpy including pictures and videos and arranged a home check to take place the same week. That was it - Scrumpy was mine! I had to wait a month for the next transportation which was one of the slowest months of my life but it gave me time to prepare my house, read up on training and buy all of Scrumpys new treats.
On the day she arrived I was so nervous - I had never met this dog! What if she didn't like me? What if she was too difficult to train?
My worries disappeared the moment they let her out of the van. She came straight over for a cuddle and licked my face with happiness. Within a few hours of getting her home, she was wagging her tail, had learnt her new name, was house trained and had learnt the 'sit', 'down' and 'no' command. What a clever little doggy!
I strongly encourage others to adopt a Zante dog. She is such a kind, gentle and good natured pup and has completed my home! It seems nerve-racking not to meet the doggy first but Zante were very honest about her character and she loved us the moment we met her! The adoption process was so simple and Zante Strays kept in good contact with me the whole time!
